It’s all a matter of perspective when evaluating the Atlanta Hawks. Despite such consistency, the Hawks have exhibited the typically low threshold for patience. Despite three postseason berths, the Hawks canned head coach Mike Woodson and put Larry Drew in charge. In 2010 Atlanta re-signed its star Joe Johnson to a $119 million extension, making him the league’s best-paid player, only to trade him to Brooklyn two years later. Forward Josh Smith was the man after Johnson’s departure, but the Hawks let him walk for Detroit. And this season Atlanta has its third coach in five years after firing Drew.
