More about Ball Arena
There are a wide variety of options for visitors to Denver, Colorado, including theaters, museums and parks, but only Ball Arena can bring the Colorado Avalanche of the NHL and the Denver Nuggets of the NBA all under one roof in the city’s Downtown. The presence of two professional sports teams plus concerts and other events can make it hard to find a Ball Arena parking spot unless you book ahead of time with ParkWhiz. Before the Avalanche and the Nuggets were based at the former Pepsi Center, both teams were previously at McNichols Sports Arena. The Nuggets were based there from 1975 to 1999 and the Avalanche from 1995-99, when the latter had just rebranded from their previous name, the Quebec Nordiques. The two teams relocated to what was then known as the Pepsi Center in October 1999, an event celebrated by a Celine Dion concert. PepsiCo had owned the naming rights to the venue since it opened, but in October 2020 they were sold to the Ball Corporation manufacturing company and it was renamed to Ball Arena. The venue, the Avalanche and the Nuggets are owned by Kroenke Sports & Entertainment. The Denver Nuggets originated as one of the original teams in the American Basketball Association, using the name “Denver Rockets” from 1967 to 1974 before assuming their present moniker. They became part of the NBA in 1976 and have won 11 division titles. The Colorado Avalanche were first based in Quebec City and known as the Quebec Nordiques from 1972 to 1995 before relocating to Denver later that year. The Avalanche have won two Stanley Cups, two Conference Championships and three Presidents’ Trophies, among other honors. With two famous professional sports teams under one roof, it is crucial to book Ball Arena parking ahead of time with ParkWhiz.
